The 5-legged sheep of sales also needs coaching
By Jean-Charles Spanelis – September 5, 2022
Last January, an article in Les Echos headlined: “Sales isn’t what it used to be. It’s becoming a profession in its own right”. It’s true that sales is in a state of flux, and has changed dramatically over the last ten years. Are we facing a unique phenomenon in the history of sales, or are we simply at the end of one phase and in the prelude to the next? Even so, we may well wonder whether the 5-legged sheep of sales exists… and what it will be like in 2023.
Companies are still looking for the perfect profile to boost their sales. But the 5-legged sales sheep doesn’t exist within a single person, it’s just part of the collective imagination.
At the end of 2018, we were already talking on BFM about how sales was a real profession. And at the time, we were far from thinking that an epidemic like Covid19 would only add very brutal changes to an already fast-moving environment. An environment requiring strategic and operational sales expertise, both face-to-face and remotely! In fact, this epidemic has only reinforced the need for excellence. There’s no room for companies who think they can sell on product quality alone. This is a sine qua non condition, but it’s not enough today.
So you can continue to dream of the salesperson who knows how to do everything. But in that case, don’t waste your time reading on, we’ll free you 😊.
On the other hand, if you have plans for your company’s future and are more interested in positive action and ROI than talk and dreams, get your team moving to improve your sales results now! Whatever your profile, you have the opportunity to give your organization wings in harmony, while helping your internal teams to work together towards a common goal: Selling and selling better!
